Resident Birds In Watercolour At Cuckmere Haven- Grey Heron

Beginners watercolour course at Cuckmere Haven Nature Reserve!

Learn techniques in drawing and watercolour, to paint a variety of local birds.

What we’ll be doing:
We will start by learning basic watercolour techniques that will be applied later when painting the
birds. Throughout the class we will be creating our own sketchbook of experiments, drawings and
paintings that we will bind together at the end of the session.
After the watercolour techniques we will move on to drawing. Drawing the birds will allow us to get a
structure down to then apply watercolour on top. This takes away the pressure when painting later
and give us a better understanding of how the birds are structured.
As we move forward we will paint the birds at different angles and start adding in background
elements. We will experiment with using different techniques in combination with each other. At this
point we can start moving on to bigger pages that would be separate from your sketchbook.
At the end of the session we will bind our sketchbooks together and spread our work out on the
tables to take photos and show our experiments and paintings to each other.

What you’ll come away with:
• A sketchbook full of experiments, notes, paintings and drawings
• Finalised pages of bird paintings

Who’s it for:
These classes are suitable for beginners and people starting out in watercolour painting. However if
you already have a bit more experience of painting you’d also be welcome to come and practise your
skills or learn something new.

What’s the vibe:
These classes are very low pressure so if you’re someone who’s a bit anxious about starting art again,
or trying it for the first time, this genuinely is a really good place to star
