Avian Influenza
Unfortunately, bird flu (avaian influenza) is having a harmful impact on bird populations across the United Kingdom.
The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has issued guidance, advising the public to remain vigilant.
Whilst the risk to human health is low, Avian Influenza is highly transmissible to birds.
To help prevent the spread, this is what you can do:
- Stick to the main footpaths
- Keep dogs on the lead
- Do not touch or pick up any dead or sick bird you encounter
- Do not pick up or touch wild bird feathers or surfaces contaminated with wild bird droppings
- If you keep birds, either as poultry or pets, wash your hands and disinfect footwear before tending to them
