Leave a lasting legacy to Seven Sisters Country Park by giving South Downs Trust a gift in your Will.
Leaving a gift in your Will to the South Downs National Park Trust is a wonderful way to ensure that Seven Sisters Country Park will be protected for future generations to enjoy.
South Downs Trust
The South Downs National Park Trust is the official charity of the South Downs National Park. We are an independent organisation, governed by an autonomous and experienced board of Trustees who oversee our work. We want to see more land managed for wildlife, more rare habitats protected, more local communities thriving and more people able to access and enjoy their National Park.
Seven Sisters Country Park
The South Downs National Park Authority took full ownership of Seven Sisters Country Park in 2021. Fronted by the iconic chalk cliffs, the site has 280 hectares of globally important habitats, unique wildlife and heritage secrets and is an important gateway to the National Park. Working with the South Downs Trust, the Authority is making substantial investment to conserve and enhance Seven Sisters Country Park to ensure that it continues to be an iconic, healthy and cherished place for future generations.
Tax Benefits
The South Downs National Park Trust is a registered charity and therefore exempt from tax. This means that gifts to the South Downs National Park Trust are not subject to capital gains tax and inheritance tax. This is of particular benefit in estate planning.
How do you Leave a Gift?
There are four types of gift that may be left in your Will. You may dedicate a gift specifically to Seven Sisters Country Park, or to the wider South Downs National Park, but the restriction needs to be clearly identified in your Will.
- Pecuniary gift – An exact sum of money specified in your Will.
- Residuary gift – A part of your estate after all expenses and other gifts have been settled.
- Specific gifts – A particular asset, such as property, shares or an object or work of art.
- Reversionary gift – A gift of property or assets that is passed to a named individual for enjoyment in their lifetime. On their death the whole or a portion of these assets revert to the beneficiary, of the reversionary legacy.
If you would like to remember us in your will, here is some suggested wording your solicitor might like to use.

What a gift in your Will would achieve
Conserve the Landscape and its Heritage
Improve our grassland, heathland and woodland. These habitats are rare and in decline (eg 80% of chalk grassland has been lost since the Second World War). We want to reverse this trend, restoring these precious habitats for future generations.
Seven Sisters Country Park is a unique landscape with multiple important habitats including the iconic chalk cliffs and chalk grassland and the river valley leading to the sea at Cuckmere Haven. There is also salt marsh, lagoons, vegetated shingle and rock pools at low tide. Your gift could help to protect this valuable landscape.
Engage Young People in Outdoor Learning
Time spent outdoors helps improve health, wellbeing and social interaction. Each year, through hands-on outdoor learning within the National Park, we’re helping thousands of young people to develop.
Seven Sisters Country Park is a popular destination for the National Park Authority and other youth agencies to hold outdoor learning events for young people. With the newly refurbished camping barn this offer has been extended to also allow nights under our magnificent dark skies. Your gift could enable more of these visits to take place.
Improve and Increase Walking and Cycling Routes
National Parks provide important breathing spaces and spending time in them can improve people’s lives. We want to make sure everyone can access our National Park, by improving rights of way and establishing new walking and cycle routes.
The ever-popular South Downs Way runs through Seven Sisters Country Park over the magnificent chalk cliffs towards Eastbourne. This popular section of the long-distance trail also links up to other footpaths and bridleways as well as the easy-access trail to the beach. Your gift could help to maintain these trails, allowing more people to discover the stunning mosaic of habitats at Seven Sisters.
Protect our Plants and Species
Based on the advice of conservation experts the Trust supports projects working to ensure our rare and endangered species survive and flourish for the next generation.
The habitats at Seven Sisters Country Park support an astonishing number of important species such as the Adonis blue butterfly and the round-headed rampion of the chalk grassland. Your gift could help protect these and other iconic species.
Support our Communities
The South Downs National Park is a living landscape. It is the work of farmers, communities and voluntary organisations that make the National Park a special place. We support those people make a difference to the National Park by coordinating, partnering and funding their work.
